After 29 years that this type of event was held, Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha held a one-of-a-kind experience of an event, a coronation of Kgosi Nchaupe. Kgosi Nchaupe the III was coronated to be chief of Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha at Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha traditional council.
As TSCC we wanted to be part of sharing the news about the coronation that happened on that faithful day. As a team we set down and discussed strategically how we are going to share what was happening…
Continuation from issue 6
Allegedly before the day of the event, Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha Communal forum did not want it to commence and apparently, Kgosi Nchaupe the III was supposed to be crowned back in 2015. Regardless, the event took place.
Chief Nchaupe III overjoyed, had no words to explain the feeling he felt when he spoke to Daily Sun newspaper as people came in their numbers. People from different backgrounds and professions including politicians, traditional healer’s forum and traditional dancers came to witness and celebrate the crowning.
We also decided to lookout for people who contributed to such a monumental event, and one of those people is Tebogo Marungwane, our very own mentor. Mr Marungwane was the media officer of the event and therefore, we saw it fitting that he shares his sentiments and how it unfolded.
After contacting him, Mr Tebogo Marungwane responded through a WhatsApp text on how he came about being the media officer, “the Bakgatlha Tribal council member who is also the Royal Family spokesperson approached me and ask how I best can help with regards to the success of the event? Because of my media background, I advised him that I can use my position to attract attention of media houses. If I do that then people will start realising that this is big. First, I arranged telephonic interviews with major Radio stations and then arranged a press Conference that was held at Bakgatla ba ga Mosetlha Tribal Hall on the 26 June 2023 to outline the way forward and give a brief history about Bakgatlha ba Mosetlha chieftaincy legacy.
The process of getting all media houses to come on board was extremely difficult as some of those media needed to understand the significance of the coronation and what it entails.
My attendance estimate is at least just well over 800 people are in attendance. So, I worked hand in hand with one of the herdsmen Ntate Nchaupe Tlhabane to see to it that media houses are on board and on the day at the coronation we also had to see to it that accreditation to media house was done.” Mr Marungwane was certainly the best person for the job. He was also asked how it felt to wear such big shoes and what impact it had for him thus far? Within minutes he responded by saying, “I feel honoured that I was given the responsibility and that I helped bring to life. I’m certain that it has added immensely to my profile. I did this because I fell as a citizen of Makapanstad who is passionate about rural development. I needed to lend a helping hand as long as the little I did make a difference, then I am content. When I did this, it was not about me being in the limelight or being the star of the show as it wasn’t about me but the cause at hand, and making sure it succeeds.”
One of our facilitators, Nkagiseng Bodibe was there performing as a member of the traditional dancing group. He mentioned how monumental the event was and how great it was to be part of the celebration. He says that, we only see these kinds of events on television. To extent, he mentions that it was an honour performing at the coronation for the chief because that hardly happens. Above all, as TSCC we say, “Kgabo! Mokgatla A e je borekhu sedibalo”.
On the previous issue we featured Mr Marungwane and a lot was not said about him. Tebogo Marungwane is a very informed man in his early 40’s, who pushed against all odds within limited opportunities.
So, I, Obakeng Maimane as a performing artist, asked what it takes for a voiceover and his answer was very simple, he said in radio, you need to be yourself because these people want to know who you actually are and that’s the thing about radio.
You can metaphorically compare it to stage because there as an actor, you live in the moment, so the audience can actually attach themselves to the actors. The difference with radio is that it’s not acting, it’s real life. The Good news is Mr Marungwane hinted that he could possibly be working on a podcast. All we know is that we should be grateful of such an extraordinary man because in his words he said, “what Tsholofelo is doing for the community is beautiful. We need more people like her because they are shaping the next generation to do better than the past generation, and I believe that people like her in the community needs to be acknowledged and given flowers while they are still alive. How beautiful is that? This is bow for Mr Marungwane and we wish him well on his future endeavours”.
On the 5th of July 2025. Our team leader was invited to a financial literacy & mental health management workshop targeted at ECD managers, ECD Practitioners, Government officials and social entrepreneurs. The workshop took place at Botsanang Day Care Centre and our team leader as passionate as she is, proclaimed that as facilitators it is vital for us to be present at the workshop.
The workshop was successful because not only did we learn about financial management, we were also given a booklet to read through, that provided information and help manage our finances. It gives without saying that we are blessed and God sees us all. As Tsholofelo Ya Sechaba Community Centre, we would like to extend our thanks to Botsanang Day Care for allowing us to attend this workshop.
Re a leboga!
